Ready to rumble: wrestling in northern India

Tucked away in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas in the former British hilltop station of Dharamsala, a crowd gathers around a shallow, make-shift sandpit, as a marching band circles the small clearing at its center.

There, dozens of men line the sandpit edge stretching, undressing, wrapping and adjusting their "uniforms" - a regular pair of underwear or modest piece of cloth, as they prepare to take part in a local wrestling competition.

One observer explains the rules of this amateur sport and the reason for its popularity in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
